Transportation – Terengganu

in Transport by admin

Getting to Terengganu is possible through various ways. Getting to Perhentian Island would require the tourist to pass by most of the state otherwise one could get in through Kelantan’s capital city of Kota Bahru. Alternatively, getting to Perhentian Island would be better going by air or sea.

Apart from that, one would need to get in by road through the expressway that connects the capital from most major cities. The North South Expressway basically connects the cities together whether one is coming from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Bahru or Johor Bahru. Another option is to come to Terengganu by bus which operates at the Kuala Terengganu Bus Terminal. The Putra Bus Terminal will bring the visitor to Kuala Terengganu in a 7 hour bus ride and bus operators like Damai Ria, Plusliner and Transnasional are the companies one can take. From here, one can take the buses to other cities from around the neighbouring states.

Served by the Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu is served to and from the capital of Kuala Lumpur everyday and two times daily to and from Penang. From Kuala Terengganu one can drive to Kuala Besut in 2 hours to get to the islands. Malaysia Airlines and budget airline Air Asia connects Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with the airport mostly which takes about 45 minutes. From Kuala Lumpur, the former Subang Airport ferries passengers to and from Redang Island.

Inside the state, travelling would be best on land where driving can be easy and there are not so much traffic jams except for the capital of Kuala Terengganu. However, taxis are abundantly available from most major hotels although buses be available, one would need to be familiar and be adventurous in order to do so.
