Kelantan Darul Naim
Kelantan is one of the eastern state of Peninsular Malaysia. Its full name, Kelantan Darul Naim means the Land of Lightning is governed by 10 main adminstrative districts. Its capital Kota Bahrum Pasir Putehm Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Bachok, Jeli, Gua Musangm Tanah Merah and Machang.
Recently there has been new discoveries in the state’s two caves, Gua Musang and Gua Cha which proves that human settlements were already at this place way back in prehistoric times. History has it that the state was very much influenced by the Funan Kingdom and from the Chinese history, showed that there has been ties between Kelantan and themselves. Later on, the Srivijaya empire spread its influence here before the Siamese came by. {mosimage}
However, towards the 15th century, the infamous Malacca Sultanate came by and towards its defeat to the Portuguese in the early 1500s, the Johor Sultanate took over before the state was seconded over to the Terengganu rulers. Only towards the 18th century when a local warlord named Long Yunus overcome the rulers whose descendents eventually held on until present day.
Apart from Kota Baru, which is its capital and where most economical activities take place, other main towns here include Kuala Krai, its caves at Gua Musang, Rantau Panjangm Tumpat and Tanah Merah. Its Moonlight Beach otherwise known as Pantai Cahaya Bulan is one of the popular beaches here while Strong Hill, is one of Kelantan’s highlands holding the Jelawang Falls.{mosimage}
One should take note that Kelantan is a more conservative state compared to other states in the country and as such, modesty should always be observed when travelling to this state of about 1.5 million people. Apart from the usual people here like the Malays, Chinese and Indians, there is a small group of around 8000 Thais known as the Orang siam who are Buddhists and have been staying in the state for many many years.
